We interrupt our regularly scheduled programming to announce that Death by Umbrella! The 100 Weirdest Horror Movie Weapons is now available on Kindle, in addition to softcover and hard.
Death by Umbrella! is a breakdown of our very favorite kills and weaponry, the culmination of many decades’ worth of horror obsessiveness and it covers lots of ground; we made it our business to include Italian horror, obscure indie gems, mainstream 80s classics, Canadiana, Asian horror, forgettable sequels and everything we could possibly think of. It’s as research-intensive as it is smart, a fun and engaging read.
The weapons, whether they’re pogo sticks, beer cans or tanning beds, are merely a conduit to discussing what makes the horror genre so unique and endlessly entertaining.
If you haven’t had a chance, check out Shock Till You Drop’s interview with co-writer Christopher Lombardo where he chats with fellow Chris, Chris Alexander, about the inspiration for Death by Umbrella!
The book features a terrific and very funny foreword by Troma’s Lloyd Kaufman (an incredible honor) and illustrations that are off-the-charts cool. If you don’t believe us, please see “Death by Basketball” in Deadly Friend below (a rough approximation of the authors’ reaction should the Toronto Raptors bow out of the NBA playoffs in the first round).
Death by Umbrella! is available in a format of your choice, at AMAZON and AMAZON UK / AMAZON Canada. It’s also available at Barnes & Noble and from our publisher Bear Manor, directly.
We’d really appreciate it if you picked up a copy because that means we’ll be able to do a follow up. We have no PayPal donate button, no Patreon, no crowdfunding — just consistently quality posts and programming (we like to think and hope you agree).
If you’re coming across our content for the first time, maybe it’ll spur interest in our show, the Really Awful Movies Podcast. There, we celebrate our love for all things genre, discussing everything from horror to grindhouse, lunkheaded action movies to flop musicals, misguided sci-fi disasters to WiP films. New episodes are available weekly, in bite-sized form (typically, under 40 minutes) and unlike other shows of this ilk, we genuinely love these films and aren’t afraid to admit it, even if we’re occasionally critical.
Thanks for reading! (and listening)
Chris & Jeff
